Aubenas is the flagship town in the south of the department, on the banks of the Ardèche river. It is the main town in the Aubenas basin community of municipalities, which has a population of over 40,000, south of the Col de l’Ecrinet pass, which marks the boundary between Vivarais and Cévennes.
